Athésia
Athésia (pronounced Ah Tease Ya) is a Sydney based, Haitian French Canadian/Australian Jazz Singer-Songwriter and Radio Host/Producer. She’s been curating, presenting and producing the show Jazz Around The World on ABC jazz, Australia’s national Broadcaster, where she puts the spotlight on the diverse sounds of jazz from all corners of the globe. For the past 10 years, Athésia has produced and hosted weekly shows that honoured and promoted female vocalists/musicians, La Francophonie and music coming from all parts of the world on community station Eastside Radio, located in Paddington/Bondi in NSW.
Born in Montreal to Haitian parents, Athésia is of French, Spanish, African and Taino (indigenous to the Caribbean) descent. Athésia performs her own unique compositions whilst honouring classic jazz, French, Bossa Nova and Haitian standards. She’s a passionate entertainer who has a mesmerising presence on stage and believes in the responsibility of entertainment with consciousness, meaning and purpose, a mantra that keeps her heart in tune with her mission.
From Montreal to Sydney to the World, Athésia has been invited to perform in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, China and in Vietnam just to name a few. Singing in French, English, Creole, Portuguese and in “Athésian”, the polyphonic artistic language she invented, Athésia is what you may consider a citizen of the world.
